    I responded on Megan's other two Stages of Grieving. As to Bargaining I guess I spent a few minutes on that phase...but only a few. My wife died of a sudden stroke (at 56) which we later found was induced by her taking PremPro for an extended period. Anyhow, the night before she had the stroke we attended two wedding receptions and it was obvious that she had a mega-headache, but she was from Germany and whining is not part of the German vocabulary. So I did nothing about it. Later if I "bargained" it was asking myself if I should have done something for her knowing she had a headache. But that would have been giving her a couple of Advil at most. And that is the most she would have accepted. Neither of us would have thought to go to the ER. So I did not have very many bargaining avenues. So I guess I more ore less skipped that, too. The other two "stages" which Megan has not filmed yet are "Depression" and "Acceptance." In my first interview with my PCP after my wife died he interviewed me for an hour and half and at the end said, "Jim, I can't detect any clinical depression though you may have situational depression (which is why he sent me to the Grief Counselor), so you need an adult to talk to." I had a lot of blue days in 2001, but none were depression and I never felt like ending it all. "Acceptance" is emerging from the fog and realizing that "you made it through". When that realization sets in, there can be situational euphoria. For me it took at least 9 months (which they say is about right for a death). Megan says she took three years; for an attractive young woman, I think she did very well since a woman is an aesthetic being and this tragedy changed her aesthetic forever. I thank her for this series. I believe the Kübler-Ross model is spot on and I would "counsel" anyone in a grieving situation to get a counselor and have that person lead you through the long tunnel to recovery. But it does end.

    In my comments after Megan's 1st grieving video I spoke of having a Grief Counselor. After we had met for 3 weeks she said, "Jim, I think you're doing well but I have one big concern." What's that? "You don't seem to be angry." So we spent the next three weeks digging into why I was not angry. After that period she relented and said, "I've practiced for 30 years and have not seen this before, but I am accepting that you really aren't burying any feelings about anger." I think at this stage my left brain kicked in (I've usually been measured with brain function right down the middle) and I said, "Jackie, for me anger must have an object. I have no idea who I should be angry with. I'm not angry with her (my deceased wife) because this was not her idea. I am not angry at God because her death was the natural consequences of a mortal world. I'm not angry with myself because I certainly didn't cause this. So exactly who am I supposed to be angry with. IF you'll give me someone to yell at...believe me I"ll yell...but there is no one. And unlike the coyotes around here (I was in Texas) I don't think howling at the moon does much good." End of chapter on my Anger. Megan's story is different. No two grieving experiences are alike. She had elements of her life suddenly changed from which there was no return. BUT, interestingly, I can remember telling friends, myself, that death was like an amputation...eventually it heals and you get around...but there is always something missing. 23 years later I still feel the same.

    @jbbevan Місяць тому

    I have lost two wives to relative sudden death. So grieving is a real thing. Some people think it is the opposite of faith....not so. They are separate things. Faith can help with grieving, but grieving is independent of any switch that you can turn on or off. My PCP recommended I go to a "Grief Counselor" (that is a thing) so I did. I spent about 2 1/2 months with her and I think it helped a lot. As with most counseling, the patient does most of the talking and the counselor is short on advice. I moved through denial quickly but death is something that we are much more wired to accept than the sudden destruction of a young female body. So that Megan should spend much more time getting through that stage is only to be expected. I had been married to my 1st wife for 32 years and we had four children. A teenage daughter was left at home and the two of us needed much more from the other than the other could give. 2001 (the year of her death...1/1/01) was a bit of a waste but I healed through that year. My grief had a literal end whereas a sudden loss of a limb gets brought up every time Megan looks in the mirror or takes a shower. She is remarkable to have gotten through it all in even 3 years.

    I know you made this over 6 years ago, Megan, but (apparently for a first effort) you did it so well. I can't imagine having to go through your trauma @ age 14. That is when "aesthetics" become the center of your life and "popularity" is what people live for. So to have that happen to you....wow....yes, I'm sure the grieving was even more intense than the physical changes. I am old enough to be your grandfather (and then some). I have been widowed twice and thus understand THAT dimension of grieving....but that heals after a few months....whereas you carry around a constant reminder, so I can imagine that it goes on, for you, in quiet alone moments. God bless. PS: Yes, I have guardian angel stories of my own. The pinched artery is classic !!
